November 2021 marked a shift in the landscape of the Downs and Surat Basin Water Group (DASB) with two of its Councils (Balonne and Maranoa) joining the new SWQ Water Alliance for collaboration opportunities. The remaining four Councils – Goondiwindi, Southern Downs, Toowoomba and Western Downs have agreed to continue to collaborate as the Downs Urban Water Technical Group (DUWTG) in a technical capacity, with Maranoa keeping an eye on opportunities with both groups.

DUWTG meets on technical issues and collaborates with the newly formed Southern Queensland Inland and New South Wales Border Regional Water Alliance (SQINB-RWA).

The group has had some significant success at a technical level, most notably in developing regional SCADA standards, completing a water supply security trial and a cyber security risk assessment, as well as alignment of Drinking Water Quality Management Plan (DWQMP) audits. Regional Operator Forum and Field Days promote collaboration between staff of the participating Councils.
